Trend Spotting: Hair Bows

How do you all feel about bows? Because I absolutely love them.

While I love bows on pretty much anything, so long as they're done right (more like this this, less like this), I'm especially fond of bow in your hair. Now don't go getting horrible flashbacks of your 3rd grade school picture with the giant bow your mom made you wear against your will. No, I'm talking refined, simple, classic bows. While I wouldn't describe my style as girly, there is something about sticking a bow in my hair that makes me feel instantly happy. I always admire the many ways Blair manages to make her bows work. From dressed up, to dressed down, this girls is on point, every time.

Now, my question to you: Would you rock bows as an adult?

Trend Sighting: Pavé Link Bracelet

So has anyone taken notice to the pavé link bracelets that seem to be gracing women's wrists this season? I can't stop noticing the oversize, yet classic link bracelet all over the blogisphere, since the only fashion I encounter on the regular involves neon colored scrubs everywhere. Of course J.Crew has this puppy in stock, but with a price tag of $125, its a bit out of my budget. Which is why Ily Coutour's version, at $75, is a little more do-able. Granted I'm still not sure I can shell out that kind of cash for a bracelet, but maybe J.Crew will have a massive 40% off sale or something? Too much? How about 30% off? No? Well, a girl can dream can't she?

What are you thoughts? Do you already own one? Is it on your wish list this fall?

Update: Dark Lips Trend

Update: I tried it. And I liked it.

Now, I'm thinking I'll take more risk and pick up a darker shade. Hello Fall lips!

Birthday Wish List

With an upcoming birthday comes the inevitable question "what do you want?" from family members and friends. Welp, that's usually a pretty tough question for me to answer. Why? Unknown, seeing as I want everything I've seen this Fall. This year I've tried to get organized. You know, do some research, take notes, organize my impulsive need to rob J.Crew, Madewell and Gap. Basically, take note of the things that have caught my eye and just make a list (like a logical person). I have to say, the skull bracelet (which is wait listed...but I can wait ;), spike bracelet, bicycle t-shirt, stripped sweater and  brown rugged boots (they're underlined because they're #1) are defiantly at the tippy top of my birthday wish list this year.

You know, I saw the Steve Madden boots in this post and have been crushing on them ever since. When I couldn't find them on the Steven Madden website, I made it my mission to find equal look-a-likes to satisfy my need to have them (and obviously failed since they have yet to grace my feet). Fast forward 9 months and I finally think to check Madden Girl for those puppies and bam! found them! Just in time for the big 2-3 *wink, wink*.

(P.S. J.Crew is having a  sale with 25% off  + free shipping on orders over $150 and Madewell has 25% off sale items. If you sign up for Steve Maddens email, you get 10% off your order. ASOS is having 20% off their collection right now, with the code DEALMOONUS, with free shipping both ways. Plus, BaubleBar has 10% off first time purchase and free shipping as well. Look at me trying to be a smart shopper, even for gifts :)

New Orleans Mini Vacation

{Best alligator video. Trust me}

Warning: Photo heavy post!

I can't even begin to explain how much I loved New Orleans. Like, its serious.

It all started with a phone call between Kim and I. We started talking about how we needed to meet up again, since we hadn't seen each other since NYC last November. We were talking about vacation time and locations. We talked Seattle, Chicago, NYC again, but somehow we landed on NOLA and the next thing I knew, I'm looking up flights and we're booking tickets not even 3 days later. Holy most spontaneous thing I've ever done.

One month later I'm sitting in an airport at 4:30am (before security was even open might I add) getting ready to board a 6:00am flight for a less than 72 hour trip to NOLA. Crazy! But it was seriously the best mini vacation ever. Not only do I absolutely adore seeing Kim (its so crazy we only get to see each about twice a year since we're practically soul mates), but NOLA is some kinda awesome.

Now, I'm just going to give you the abridged version of this trip and leave your imagination to fill in the gaps. On this trip I managed to:

Ride a mechanical bull in a cowboy bar.
End up getting paired up for dinner (by the hostess, randomly) with two strangers, who turned out to live where Angela lives in NJ and were completely awesome.
Go on a swamp tour (hello alligator friends and reckless tour guide).
Try amazeball po-boys, gumbo, jambalaya (and the ever so good 2am chili dog).
Visit Cafe Du Monte and basked in the greatness that is beignets and au lait coffee.
Join a dance party in the street.
Witness a traditional New Orleans street parade after a wedding.
Meet a very drunken Irishman, and had to be rescued by Kim.
See police officers on horses just chillin in the street.
Visit the french market. Twice.
Try alligator jerky (it was actually really good!).
Go on a rum distillery tour and proceeded to try a million samples of terrible rum (well maybe its terrible because the only rum I like is flavored with coconut). It was painful.
Get a great free tour from our sweet rum tour guide of the surrounding area  and the history of the area pre/post Katrina during the van ride there and back.
Buy cheesey masks. And actually wear them in public.
Try to force Kim on a walking tour early in the morning. She was not amused. Like at all. (Lucky for her it down poured during our mini break before the tour so she got to eat cheesy grits for the second morning in a row instead).
Meet English boys on holiday road tripping around America. They wore sequin bow ties and a love of dancing. My favorite kind of boys ;)
Have the best sushi of my life. No lie. (even though we took the cable car to god knows where to get it.)
Be amazed by the iron work architecture lining the streets.
Witness the morning clean up done by all the business on Bourbon Street (a.k.a. just hosing off the areas outside their stores/bars).
Listen to jazz all over the city. The streets, the bars, everywhere!
Try a hand grande. It was foul.
Wear my new rain boots!

I am in love with New Orleans open container policy. Not because I like to get drunk in public, but man is it convenient  Taking in the sights AND having a nice drink. Win! While I don't think I could ever live in NOLA, I do love the atmosphere, the people, the energy and the architecture. There is no place like NOLA.  Lets just say Kim's already booked a hotel for Mardi Gras next year...
