White Castle

I've never been to White Castle. I know, I know, I suck at life...

Pat and Duffy had the brilliant idea to drive to Allentown Saturday and since I have no life I was like hellz to the yeah! We were pumped, let me tell ya. And okay, so maybe its not my favorite (I still adore five guys), it did hit the spot Saturday. The boys, on the other hand, were suuuuccchh happy campers. Now, if only I could have managed to score shot gun during the ride (despite my attempt to steal it from Pat, and then have him squeeze in ontop of me while a man stopped in traffic stared. Needless to say I moved to the back.).

P.S. Duffy totally didn't notice me sneaking shots on account of his eyes-open white-castle-induced food coma.

Lookbook: Jean Shorts

Shirt: Gap Outlet, Button Up: Express, Tights: old, Jean Shorts: DIY from American Eagle,
Necklace: old friends, Shoes: super old Converse

Please excuse the pile of clothes on Mikes floor in that photo. He doesn't believe in housing clothes in dressers or closets. Friday was my "dental day" at work, meaning I got one of my fillings done (yea!). I was planning on wearing a skirt but since I was assisting my boss with one of my coworkers fillings, a skirt wasn't very practicle. So I went with my favorite combo instead: jean shorts and tights. I don't care how many people point and laugh at my choice of attire. I just tell them they're actually quite stylish and then in turn mock them for not reading more blogs.

Turtle Turds

Last time I was in the Barre, Nicole took me to this new restaurant she'd found, which was famous for their "turtle bites". Didn't quite get where that name came from seeing as they looked more like turtle turds, but hey, I'm sure that's probably not going to sell as many meals. The cool thing about this place is they have 4.567 million different sauces for your chicken bites. I tried mango habenero while Nicole got parmeasan garlic or something like that. Gotta say, wasn't super thrilled with my bites. Maybe I should go for a classic hot wing or something because the mango habenero wasn't as promising as it sounds. However, the ginormous plate of sweet potato fries was straight up awesome and Nicole and I annihilated them. I love long lunches with Nicole any day of the week.

Lookbook: Self-Timer

Blazer from Spain (old), Deliah jeans (old), Jason Wu for Target shirt,
Kohls wedges (old), Kohls earrings, Kohls watch.

Do you know how hard it is to take outfit photos on a self timer with your camera propped on your car? I'll give you a hint...super hard. That would be why my photos look like a 5 year old got a hold of my camera and decided their calling in life was to be a photographer. Not good my friends, not good. But I guess they get the job done. Friday I had a meeting with my boss so I wanted to look nice, but given that its casual Friday, I didn't want to look "too" nice. And boy was I super-d-duper comfortable in this outfit. Wide leg pants (that still fit from high school...holla!) are the way to go friends. And I love my new Jason Wu shirt. I obviously had to cash in on Targets new collection. They're lucky I have enough self control (and a small bank account) to avoid purchasing one of everything. And I swear, I never wear this blazer, but in the past couple weeks, its turned into my go-to piece for some reason. Can't say i'm complaining about it though.

Lookbook: Zebra's Ain't Got Nothin' On Me

My brother bought me this dress for my birthday/christmas this year (yes, I gave him the link, my size and EXACTLY what I wanted...I love my bro but I'm not confident he could have found this on his own) and I immediately thought of 343.33 million ways to wear it. Its the only thing I've ever owned from J.Crew and I plan on making it worth the money. Well a few weeks later, I saw Atlantic-Pacific's take on the dress that I adored. Do I own a chambray shirt? check! Chuck Taylors? check! The dress? check, check, check! Then, a week later, I saw The Daily Be do her own rendition of the outfit, which included tights. So clearly it was meant to be copied and worn on my own. While, I did think of pairing my dress with my chambray shirt before, I did take inspiration after seeing these posts to make it more casual (my original plan was to wear it with my brown wedges). For weekend lunch with my bestie, it was the perfect outfit.

Well perfect for lunch. Not so much for nap time that immediately followed. I should have thrown on my bum clothes for that, but when the mood strikes, you just gotta curl up like a cat and close them eyelids. Until your boyfriend gets home and jumps on you to wake you up that is.

P.S. Mikes room mates had a number of comical jokes about my dress...including my not limited to a prisoner, a zebra, and the Lion King musical. Thanks guys...not!!

Goldsteins

Before boyfriend went and sliced his hand like a champ Saturday, we grabbed an awesome dinner at this deli across the bridge, Goldsteins. The sandwiches are straight up baller! I got the Twisted Sister (pastrami, swiss and some other meat that I can't remember but tastes delicious on a warm pretzel roll with spicy mustard, lettuce, tomato onion. Yes please!) and boo got a cuban? I think...I can't remember but either way it was deliciouso. Other cool thing about this place, it is chock full of different kinds of beers. Hundreds! Its pretty insane (as you can tell by some of the photos). Downside is they take awhile to make your food, which stinks when you're hungry enough to quite possibly start gnawing on your own hand, but for normal, non cannibals, the wait time probably isn't too terrible. I'm going to miss this place once boy finishes school.

Lookbook: What Black, White and Red All Over?

Blazer: Spain, Jeans: Khols, Flats: Target (old), Shirt: H&M

What I wore to the Vagina Monologues. I clearly had to support the Vagina cause so I busted out my lovable red pants and jazzed them up with a blazer, black and white silk shirt and my all time favorite cheetah flats. Love.

Although I regret to inform you that I may have possibly promptly run home after the show and changed into my favorite cozy sweatshirt and loose tank for the bar. What?! It was a night with the boys and they just don't appreciate style...and by "appreciate" I mean I could wear a brown sack and they wouldn't notice the difference. Sheesh.

P.S. Wanna know how awkward it was to take outfit photos in the middle of a crowded room? Let me tell you. Very. Note the stairs of the girl behind me...

Vagina Monologues

Friday night I went to the 14th annual showing of Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues at my alma mater. This was my fifth year watching the performances and every year I find it enjoyable. Plus, I always have friends participating in the readings so, double score! My good friend Angela has been the director of the show for the past four years and I was surprised when my friend Nicole said she'd be reading, since she's usually the more reserved of us girls. But I was so proud of both of them! Once again, I laughed at the angry Vagina's and the "cellar" but the final monologue was my favorite this year; it touched on being "over" rape and how its not a joking matter. It really hit home and I appreciated that addition to the show, especially since it touched on recent events and issues.

Plus, I love buying shirts that say vagina to 1) support the local Victims Resource Center and 2) make people  feel uncomfortable when I wear it in public. Who doesn't love seeing peoples confused reactions because you have anatomical correct terminology on your clothing?

P.S. I am also super proud of my friend Abby for continuing to preform in the Vagina Monologues at PCOM. You rock girlie! Sorry I couldn't see you.
P.P. S. How cute is the Valentine Nicole got me. It was filled with animal crackers and I was in love. Happy Valentines Day!

Emergency Room Date

You guys will never guess how my Saturday night turned out! Boyfriend wanted to surprise me and take me on a date to the skating rink Saturday (but of course I figured it out cause i'm a genius and all). So after he wined and dined me (minus the wine part), we laced up our skates and hit the ice and wouldn't you know it, a huge bear came out of nowhere and started attacking innocent bystanders!! Holyshitballs batman! Well, this hunky man I was with decided it was his civic duty take on the bear. It was all KABAM! and KAPLOW! and BANG, SMACK, BAM!! Pretty epic if you ask me. Boy walked away with only a gash on his hand and 10 stitches, but the bear? Welp, that poor fool won't be messing with us again if ya catch my drift ;)

What, you don't believe me? Alright fine. A 10-year old going the wrong way on the ice ran into boy. Boy absorbed the blow and fell, keeping the kid standing but somehow in the shuffle, boys hand was sliced by the kids skate. I was ahead of him so  I only saw the fall and him skate off the ice. I come back around the rink and see blood everywhere and think, oh shit! And as I head out to find him, I hear everyone talking about this injured kid bleeding everywhere and I think, great, that's my kid! I find boy bleeding like a fool and being bandaged up by staff members. 2.3 million wet wipes, an ambulance call, a trip to the ER and 10 stitches later, boy and I called it a night bycurled up on the couch with ice cream and Clerks 2 (where I promptly passed out halfway through).

And he never shed a tear. What can I say folks? My boyfriends kinda a badass.

Cookbook: Pasta Salad

This is quite possibly one of the easiest pasta salad recipes ever invented (and yummiest!). I used to spend a week accompanying a couple families to the beach each summer to babysit their kids and this is a recipe the one mom used to rely on. She adds black olives and some other cheeses, but over the years I've modified it (soley based on my memory capacity and my dislike for olives).

Ingredients:
Cheddar Cheese
Pepperoni
Broccoli
Tomatoes
Pasta
Italian Dressing

1. Boil a large pot of water.
2. Cut up broccoli into bite sized pieces.
3. Heavily salt the boiling water and drop in broccoli pieces for a minute or less (You just want to blanch them so that you're not just eating hard, raw broccoli. You're more than welcome to skip this step but for some reason I just prefer it this way.)
4. Take out broccoli and submerge in cool water to stop the cooking process.
5. Add pasta to broccoli/salt water.
6. Cook pasta until al dente
7. Add 1/2 bottle of Italian dressing to hot pasta. The pasta will absorb the dressing so you don't want to add all of it at once.
8. Chop up cheese, pepperoni (if necessary) and tomatoes.
9. Let pasta come to room temperature, then drop in remaining ingredients and 1/4 bottle of dressing (if you add the ingredients while hot, the cheese will melt and the tomatoes end up getting soggy).
10. Refrigerate. Once completely cool, you can add the remaining 1/4 dressing.
11. Serve!

This is my go-to side dish, especially for outdoor events or gatherings. I even make a batch and divide it for lunches during the week aside my sandwich. You can pretty much add anything you like or try difference cheeses but for some reason, this is the combo I always come back to. If you try it, let me know what you think!

Lookbook: For the Love of Red Pants

I love red pants. There I said it. Even though they are too big and fall off when I walk and they expose my ankles to brisk winter weather and my boyfriend and grandpa hate them, I love them and will not stop wearing them. I also love stripes and chambray shirts. So basically, this outfit is a compilation of all things I love. And since I don't love football, I might as well love my outfit. Gotta have some kinda love on Super Bowl Sunday right?

Maybe that's why they put the Super Bowl in February, nestled in with Valentines Day. Because people love football, food, and friends (and their outfits). Its a month of love! And I started it off with my red pants. Win!

Zoey didn't like mom and I ignoring her to take photos so she got in some shots. Isn't she such a snappy dresser?

Super Bowl Sunday

Super Bowl Sunday is like Christmas morning to the fans of the competing teams. For me, Super Bowl Sunday is an excuse to pig out on incredibly unhealthy but equally delicious food, watch commercials that I would normally fold laundry to and watch Madonna shake her 50-something year old money maker (and the rest of her outrageously toned body that puts-my-lazy-ass-that-almost-never-moves-from-my-indent-in-the-couch to shame). I headed over to my good friend Meaghan's to participate in the highly anticipated sporting event, and although my excitement level was equivalent to that of a sloth (not even going to pretend that I like football. That was a job for my high school, wanna impress a guy self), I was in a room with die hard Giants fans. So clearly I chose to root for the Patriots ;) Just kidding, just kidding, I was all Giants. The energy in the room was intense people. Joe, Meaghan's boyfriend, has the clapping strength of the Hulk (my eyes blinked every time he clapped). And Joe's sister had the smack talk to knock a gangsta from the ghetto flat on their ass. Meaghan was also into the game but chose, like me, to focus more of her attention on food and distracting her boyfriend (i.e. sitting on his lap in fetal position).

As the final moments of the game ticked by, everyone was on the edge of their seat. And when the win came and the confetti fell, well it was a magical moment full of hugs, cheers and fits held high (alright you caught me! I just sat on the couch as if nothing important just happened). And what kind of celebration would it be without champagne? Well folks, it wouldn't.

And on a completely unrelated note, how cute are Meaghans salt and pepper grinders? They're bunnies and you squeeze their ears to dispense. Love!
